5 Ways To Beat Allergies This Spring

We all look forward to spring but unfortunately for some this is the time of year that we begin to experience that heavy feeling of allergies, sneezing, itchy eyes and skin flare ups.

If you’re expecting your annual visit of hay-fever, try these tips to help beat your allergies this spring:

  1. Spring clean your home:
    Use eco cleaners to wash linens, wipe surfaces, steam furnishings, dust then vacuum and aerate your home. Cleaning away winters build up of dust, mould (hopefully not!) and stale airflow will remove multiple allergens and triggers from your living spaces.

  2. Use nasal irrigation:

    For sufferers of sinus or post-nasal drip, cleansing your nasal passages with a neti pot or nasal bulb and warmed saline water is a fantastic way of unblocking sinuses, rinsing away bacteria and clearing mucous. This traditional method has been used effectively for centuries.

  3. Take vitamin C and bioflavonoids:
    Vitamin C with its anti-inflammatory and immune boosting effects has anti-histamine like qualities, coupled with bioflavonoids such as quercetin, can help to decrease sneezing, itchiness and redness. Foods rich in vitamin C are abundant in Spring such as cauliflower, capsicums, broccoli, lemons and oranges.

  4. Take a closer look at your gut health:
    Changes in digestive health, and ‘leaky gut’ permeability, can predispose people to worsened, chronic or even new allergies. How is you digestion?

  5. Ask your naturopath for a herbal prescription:
